The Humane Society needs you! Are you an active person who loves cats?
We are in great need of morning cat care volunteers. We are looking for volunteers who can devote at least 2 hours twice a month.
We need people to arrive by 8:30 am. We scoop boxes, clean floors, dishes, windows, laundry, etc. Must be able to lift 25 pounds, bend, kneel, etc - kinda like yoga with cats (well not quite).
We also spend time grooming, playing and socializing the cats/kittens. Rewards include kitty cuddles, snacks, coffee/tea and tons of appreciation.
Help at our Wags to Riches Thrift Boutique
The success of our store depends largely on volunteers like you. The more volunteers we have to staff the store the more hours we can be open. Should you have any questions please contact us at 594-2255.
Do you have carpentry skills?
We need help building shelters for outdoor stray and feral cats. We also need help with the renovation projects at our new location in Montour Falls. If you have carpentry skills, please check out this instruction manual for building warm shelters out of styrofoam.

Other Ways to Help
Volunteering is a great way to teach children about compassion and the need to lovingly and responsibly care for animals.
With adult supervision, children under the age of 15 can help with fundraising events, make toys for the animals, collect redeemable cans/bottles, collect towels, and make popsicles for the dogs or treats for the cats. Children under 15 cannot be involved in direct animal care.
Children 8 through 12 years of age are able to participate in a reading-to-the-animals program when accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Children 15 through 17 years of age are welcome to work with cats/kittens (not dogs) at the discretion of the HSSC Board of Directors and as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children 15 through 17 years of age can apply to volunteer without parental supervision (but not without HSSC staff supervision) by sending a letter to the HSSC Board of Directors addressing why they want to participate in animal care. The board will meet with the applicant and make a decision regarding volunteer placement at that time.
Children 18 years and older are welcome to volunteer in all capacities with appropriate training.
This section will highlight our wonderful volunteers. If you have had a good experience with an HSSC volunteer and would like to share it with us, please send us an email.
