Donations
The Humane Society of Schuyler County is a 501(c)3 not for profit corporation, dedicated to advancing animal welfare in our community. We receive no federal, state or county funding. Nor do we receive financial support from national animal welfare organizations for our ongoing operations. Our funding comes from fundraising efforts, grants and gifts from friends like you. We depend on your support in the form of a donation, memorial tribute or bequest to advance our mission and build a sustainable future for our organization. All donations are tax-deductible.
Cash Donations
We love cash donations – we can put this money right to work caring for sick and injured cats and dogs and feeding and housing those who are waiting for a new home. There are lots of ways you can make a cash donation:
Drop off or mail in a cash or check donation at the shelter. If you want to send it by mail, our address is PO Box 427, Montour Falls, NY 14865
Online Donations
We accept all major credit cards at the shelter or over the phone. 607-594-2255

- Online donation through MightyCause for regular donations and special projects
- Online donation through your Paypal account
We will provide you with an acknowledgement for your itemized tax deduction.
If you are interested in making a major donation, please contact our Executive Director for options on how such a generous gift can best be utilized.
Appreciated Securities
Are your stocks doing well, but you are not looking forward to paying capital gains tax? You can donate your securities directly to the Humane Society without paying capital gains tax, plus you receive the full market value of your donation if you itemize your deductions. Your tax accountant can provide details.
Contact us at 607-594-2255 to arrange the transfer with your broker.
Are you over 70 1/2 years with an IRA? The IRS requires you to withdraw a certain minimum amount if you are older than this age. Your withdrawal will be taxed as ordinary income. But if you ask your broker to make all or part of your required withdrawal to the Humane Society, you can avoid taxes on that amount. Moreover, this reduces your Adjusted Gross Income which may result in lower Medicare and Social Security taxes. Check with your accountant or tax attorney for details.
Memorials
Are you looking to make a donation in memory of a friend, family member, or pet? We can accept such donations and provide an acknowledgement and tax form. Major donations will be recognized with plaques inside the shelter. Gifts may be sent or dropped off at the shelter with instructions as to who made the gift and who is being remembered.
Special Occasion Gifts
Would you like to give a gift to recognize someone special who loves animals? We can accept such a gift and provide you with a recognition card for the special person. These are great for birthdays, holidays and just saying thanks.
We also provide Gifts of Service which allows you to purchase a spay or neuter clinic visit to your friend’s companion animal.
Contact us by email or at 607-594-2255.
Sponsor A Pet
Perhaps you aren’t in a position to adopt or foster an animal at this time. You can still contribute to their care and medical support through our sponsoring program. You can choose the dog or cat from our current list and we will collect an amount of your choosing from your bank account or credit card each month. We will provide you with updates on the pet’s status until it is adopted.
United Way
Did you know that you can direct some or all of your United Way contribution to the Humane Society? When you sign your pledge card in October, be sure to list the Humane Society as your restricted donation, usually near the bottom of the form.
Matching Corporate Donations
Many corporations will match your donation to the charity of your choice, thereby doubling the impact of your generosity. Check with the Human Resources Officer of your company to see if your company offers a program like this.
