News Release: Humane Society of Schuyler County Volunteer Meghan Lyons Named Corning Incorporated Volunteer of the Year (July 9, 2026)

The Humane Society of Schuyler County announced that veteran volunteer Meghan Lyons has been awarded Corning Community Impact’s inaugural Volunteer of the Year Award. Meghan was one of six Corning Incorporated employees chosen as Excellence in Volunteerism Award winners, each of whom received a $5,000 grant to put toward their chosen charity. As the Volunteer of the Year Award winner, Meghan received an additional $10,000 grant for the Humane Society of Schuyler County.

Meghan began volunteering at the Humane Society of Schuyler County in 2010, taking dogs to adoption events and fundraising for the organization. In 2018, she started walking shelter dogs. Recognizing the need for additional support for the organization’s small paid staff, Meghan helped the shelter’s Executive Director, Georgie Taylor, build a volunteer dog walking program, which now has more than 127 volunteers on its roster. To build this initiative, Meghan crafted a clever community outreach campaign called, “Human Exercise Program, sponsored by the dogs of HSSC,” which has attracted many new shelter volunteers.

“We are delighted to have Meghan on our team, and especially grateful for the time and energy she gives to the shelter,” said Georgie. “This is an extraordinary recognition of Meghan’s tireless service to homeless animals, and her financial gift through Corning’s Volunteer of the Year Award will help us support even more animals.”
